A prototype malaria vaccine based on a common cold virus…

Discovery in 2006 of a prototype malaria vaccine based on a common cold virus (Ad35) as carrier for malaria protein (Ophorst, Infect Immun, 2006).
Next in 2007 we were able to show that our Ad35 vaccine against human malaria improved the malaria protein vaccine, called RTS,S of GSK (Stewart, Infect Immun, 2007). In 2009 we proved for malaria the concept that two heterologous common cold viruses carrying malaria proteins and administered consecutively, boost the immune response against malaria substantially (Rodriguez, Vaccine, 2009). On top of that protective responses against a protein malaria were shown to be boosted by the combination of our Ad35/Ad26 malaria vaccine. (Radosevic, Clin Vaccine Immunol, 2010) .Challenge studies in humans are predicted to start in 2011.
